Carbon Tax Implementation in Uzbekistan Discussed at the Global Economic Analysis International Conference
On June 17–19, 2026, Fazliddin Shamsiyev, an employee of the Institute for Reducing the Shadow Economy, Improving Tax and Customs Administration and Fiscal Analysis under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, participated as an international attendee in the 29th Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis held in Kyoto, Japan.
During the conference, he presented a research paper entitled “Integrating Carbon Tax into Environmental Sustainability: Economic Instruments for Environmental Protection in Uzbekistan”.
The presentation highlighted the economic and environmental impacts of introducing a carbon tax in Uzbekistan, as well as the assessment results obtained using the GTAP-E model. The findings received high recognition from conference participants.
As part of the event, meetings were held with Professor Thomas Hertel of Purdue University (USA), founder of the GTAP Project; Professor Mark Horridge of the Centre of Policy Studies (Australia), one of the developers of the RunGTAP software; as well as representatives of the WTO, Deloitte, GEMPACK Software, and researchers from leading universities around the world.
The discussions focused on contemporary approaches and international experience in economic modeling, green economy, and fiscal policy.
Participation in this international conference marked an important step toward strengthening the Institute’s scientific capacity, expanding international academic cooperation, and studying advanced practices in environmental and fiscal policy
