Expert dialogue with the IMF: Institute discusses key priorities in tax policy

On 21 July 2026, the Institute for Reducing the Shadow Economy, Improving Tax and Customs Administration, and Fiscal Analysis under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — Wen Jean-Francois, Jawad Shah, and William McCluskey.

The meeting was held as part of the IMF experts' mission to Uzbekistan from 21 to 31 July 2026 and served as a platform for a substantive expert dialogue on the further development of the tax system.

One of the key topics discussed was the taxation of digital platforms, an area that is becoming increasingly important in the context of economic transformation.

Representatives of the Institute also introduced the IMF experts to the Institute's ongoing analytical research and policy work aimed at developing proposals in the fields of tax policy. During the discussion, the participants explored opportunities to expand the use of modern analytical tools and international best practices in designing policies to improve the efficiency of Uzbekistan's tax system.
